You would imagine that by now (like almost 30 years after RSS was invinted) there are good RSS readers for iPhone, but I haven’t been able to find one yet (quite honestly, there are so many that I haven’t gone through all of them).
My demands:
- No ads
- No external account creation (syncing / storing through iCloud would be a big plus)
- No data collected
- Happy to pay a one-time fee, or a small subscription fee
- No AI (because it’s completely shit anyways; possibly on-device AI could be considered (but I don’t think this is good enough yet))
- Good layout so that comics can be read straight from the RSS feed
- One very easy to implement but extremely useful feature would be to specify regex to ignore posts (I really don’t care about “XXXXX is on its lowest price point yet (in the US)” posts);
- Something else nice would be a “read later” section
- Universal app (mac/ipad/ios) with syncing through iCloud would be great plus
I used feedly for a long time, before realising I really didn’t like them (for privacy reasons), and liked even less that they were constantly asking me if their AI accurately identified the article contents (which more often than not it didn’t).
Last year I switched to Reeder, which is close, but (1) has terrible (and not customisable) gestures (you have to scroll down past the bottom of a post to see the next post, which is not great if the post is 20000 words) and (2) somehow manages to display images 20px wider than the screen, meaning that in comics you lose the last word of every sentence…
So just wondering if anyone has any suggestions (or should I just go ahead and create my own?)
